Japan former head coach hints at leading Thailand national team

Akira Nishino, Japan former head coach applied for the Thailand head coach position.

After a disappointing King’s Cup 2019 and 4th rank in the table, the acting coach Sirisak Yodyardthai stepped down thereby the race for the head coach position has become hotter than ever. There have been 2 foreign coaches showing their interest with the head coach position.

Recently, Japan former head coach applied for the position. On Tuesday, June 19, FAT confirmed they received his CV.

Akira Nishino

Nishino once led Japan national team in FIFA world Cup in Russia as a replacement for Vahid Halilhodzic who was sacked before the tournament. He helped the ‘Blue Samurai’ reached top 16 after a 2-3 defeat to Belgium.

Besides Akira Nishino, Mr Yoon Jong-hwan from South Korea also expressed his interest in the position, who was dismissed by Muangthong board after a range of unimpressive performance of the team.

Yoon Jong-hwan, an old South Korea national player, once led J-League side Cerezo Osaka. He also said he is interested in leading the U23 team more than the national team. U23 Thailand is also facing a gap in the head coach position after Gama left for Muangthong last week.
